Scenic road
All 11 hours of travel we will admire the breathtaking landscapes. You will see how the small hills of the outskirts of Tbilisi turn into the greatest mountains of the Caucasus. There will be several beautiful stops and amazing natural phenomena along the way.
You will see the azure Zhinvali reservoir in the arms of wooded mountains, you will learn about its creation and significance. At the source of the reservoir is the Ananuri Fortress, once this place was an important outpost, you will learn about the exploits of the Aragvi eristavis and the architectural features of the citadel.
The road will rise higher and higher, past meadows with grazing herds of sheep, and we will reach the Arch of Friendship on the edge of the mountain near the Gudauri ski resort. This is the highest point of the pass and the perfect place to get in touch with the greatest mountains of Georgia forever!
Having passed the Cross Pass, we will stop at an extraordinary travertine rock: mineral waters flow along its orange slopes, and there is a spring nearby where you will taste natural brackish narzan.
Without a trip along the Georgian Military Highway, you will not get a complete picture of the history of Georgia. At the Arch of Friendship we will talk about the Treaty of St. George between Georgia and Russia. And you will also pass through the Darial Gorge, which is remembered not only by Lermontov, Pushkin and Griboyedov, but also by the Horde and the caravans of the Silk Road.
The culmination of the trip will be the highest mountain of Georgia, Kazbek. It will open to you in the mountain settlement of Stepantsminda, from where you will go up in jeeps to the Gergeti Trinity Church. It impresses with its location under the clouds and harmony with mountain landscapes and flying eagles and clouds. On this tour, you will also see the Monastery of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel almost on the border – Patriarch Ilia II called this new shrine a symbol of faith and unity between Georgia and Russia.
In the middle of the journey, you will have a rest at lunch in a cozy restaurant.
